Every week you will take a vocabulary test. At the beginning of the school year, you will be tested only on the meaning of the roots. Towards the second half of the school year, you will be expected to know the roots and the definitions of specific words associated with those roots. Test scores will count both for individual grades in writing and group points for our Spelling Wizards board game. You will be provided with a paper copy of the current week's vocabulary list each Friday when you take your test. You are encouraged to study nightly for these tests--the point is not to pass Friday's exam, but to internalize these roots for a lifetime of understanding. Most students find that studying for 15-20 minutes each night is sufficient for long-term memorizing. There are many ways to memorize; it may take you several tries to find what works best for you. The following websites are online options for studying your roots. They have an array of games and quizzes that are fun and extremely beneficial check them out!
